A to Z Equipment Rentals & Sales recently wrote its one millionth rental contract to John Watson, owner of Phoenix-based A Second Look Consignment Superstore.

Watson came into the A to Z store on Nov. 22, to rent a parking lot striper. He was surprised to be told that his rental contract was number 1 million. To commemorate the milestone, Watson was awarded a new John Deere line trimmer.

Watson has been an occasional customer of A to Z for 30 years. He recalls renting a trencher to redo his yard, and at other times rented portable coolers when his air conditioning went out, and shop vacs when his store flooded.

In addition to this milestone, A to Z will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2010.

Phoenix-based A to Z Equipment Rentals & Sales, founded by Fred Matricardi in 1960, has grown to three locations. The East Valley location, which opened in 2000, is undergoing an expansion that will triple its size, and is expected to be completed in June of 2010. Expansion in the North Valley on a recently purchased parcel adjacent to the current store is planned, and Matricardi is scouting the West Valley for his fourth location.
