SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Volvo Rents was busy over the past month adding acquisitions in Texas, New Mexico, California and Kansas to its growing number of company-owned branches in the U.S.

Recently, the company acquired Camrus Development, a single-location rental company in Bryan, Texas, formerly owned by Volvo Rents franchisee Martin Walker. With the acquisition, Volvo Rents now has 11 rental centers in Texas.

In New Mexico, Volvo Rents acquired Action Equipment Rental, a three-location construction equipment rental company based in Las Cruces, with branches in Alamagordo and Silver City, N.M. The acquisition adds to Volvo Rents' New Mexico portfolio, with an existing rental center in Peralta, N.M.

“Of all the consolidators that approached us over the last couple of years, none of them possessed a culture and core value that lined up with ours,” said Action founder Joseph Muench. “That is until we were contacted by Volvo Rents.” Muench will remain with Volvo Rents as a consultant.

Gary Stansberry of The Stansberry Firm represented Action Equipment Rental.

Continuing the expansion of its California rental business portfolio, Volvo Rents acquired Rental Solutions, a three-location construction equipment rental company with stores in Napa Valley, Santa Rosa and Cloverdale, Calif.

The new Volvo Rents locations will all be managed by Mark Nichols, who co-founded Rental Solutions in 2002.

In Kansas, Volvo Rents purchased single-location equipment rental company Big L Rentals & Sales located in Garden City. Volvo Rents already has rental centers in Wichita and Pittsburg, Kan.

Big L Rentals & Sales was previously owned by Jack and Dixie Beery, who have owned the store since 1996.

Volvo Rents now has 121 outlets in North America. Based in Shippensburg, Pa., it is No. 21 on the RER 100.

“For the first time in quite some time, we are seeing increases in the construction sector, particularly in Texas,” said Mike Crouch, vice president of business development for Volvo Rents. “We believe this is the most solid evidence yet of a strengthening recovery and we look forward to continuing to grow our business and distribute our comprehensive line of essential equipment.”
