United Rentals last week sponsored a Hurricane Preparedness Night in partnership with the Florida Marlins on Thursday, May 24, at Dolphin Stadium.

United Rentals and the Miami-based Major League Baseball club teamed up to tell fans how to prepare for hurricanes and other severe weather emergencies. The 2007 hurricane season officially begins on Friday, June 1.

Representatives from the company's general rentals, heavy equipment, aerial, and trench safety, pump and power regions, as well as members of its national accounts team, were on hand for the event starting at 5 p.m. Wayland Hicks, CEO for United Rentals, took the mound for the ceremonial first pitch.

“We are delighted to host our first Hurricane Preparedness Night with the support of the Florida Marlins,” said Hicks. “The almost unimaginable destruction caused by natural disasters in recent years has shown the importance of educating the general public about preparedness and recovery. Our company is at the forefront of developing processes to help communities and the government react effectively to natural disasters through partnerships with first responders, training and access to critical equipment.”

The Florida Marlins defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 5 to 4 in Thursday night’s game.

Greenwich, Conn.-based United Rentals is No. 1 on the RER 100.
