Tony’s Rental Sales & Service will close its doors April 30 after 40 years in business, the Santa Fe New Mexican has reported. Tony and Mary Tapia and their son Mike Tapia are selling their inventory. The Tapias opened their business in 1974.

Tony’s has primarily rented to local contractors and handymen, being the only rental business in the city. Business slowed down in 2011 when contracting work dried up around the Santa Fe area, forcing Tony Tapia to have to lay off half of his staff. Although business is improving now, he is ready to retire at the age of 83.
