Sunstate Equipment recently opened two branches, chairman Mike Watts told RER, helping the Phoenix-based company to expand its footprint as well as utilize excess fleet.

Sunstate opened branches recently in Killeen, Texas, and Tulsa, Okla. The Killeen branch is located close to Fort Hood.

Watts said the company is exploring additional markets for possible expansion in 2010 in an effort to take surplus fleet and deploy it in cities where the company can get some utilization out of it. Watts said Sunstate management is currently analyzing the potential for expanding versus selling surplus equipment in an uncertain used equipment market.

Sunstate Equipment, No. 12 on the RER 100, has about 52 branches in Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Utah.
