Pacific Power Group, a leading provider of engine and power systems, has launched the Dave “Diesel Dog” Miller Memorial Scholarship Fund for Northwest diesel, welding, maritime and industrial technology students in honor of dedicated longtime employee Dave Miller Sr., who recently died unexpectedly.

Miller, a dedicated leader at Pacific Power Group’s Kent, Wash., branch for more than 20 years, went by the nickname of “Diesel Dog.”  Miller was known for his dedication to mentoring newer members of the team and regularly worked alongside them, showing them the ropes and imparting his wit and wisdom. In Miller’s memory, PPG is launching a memorial scholarship fund for Pacific Northwest student interested in a technical trade career such as diesel or industrial technology, welding or in the maritime industry. The scholarship fund will aid students who have shown a passion for a career in a technical trade, for which an acute shortage of qualified workers exists.

“Dave was a teacher who made sure that those around him not only knew what they were doing, but also the significance of getting it right,” said Bill Mossey, vice president at Pacific Power Group. “He relished the toughest challenges and called upon his broad knowledge of diesel engines and vast array of technical abilities to solve problems and teach others in turn. This scholarship fund honors Dave’s life and the impact he had on so many people in our industry by supporting the next generation of students as they launch their careers.”

Three students per year will be awarded individual scholarships ranging from $1,500 to $2,500. Applicants must be enrolled or have applied for admission to a technical trade program located in Oregon or Washington, demonstrate a passion for their chosen career path and be a high school graduate or hold a GED.
