Michael Sullivan, a veteran aerial lift sales representative for United Rentals and McClinch Equipment before that, died of a sudden heart attack recently at the age of 60.

Sullivan began his career selling aerials in New York City in February 1983 and according to a statement from United Rentals, generated more than $150 million in revenues during his 27-year career. Sullivan was called the “Mayor of New York” on many New York-area construction sites.

Sullivan supplied aerial equipment in the 1980s to the original Jacob Javits Convention Center and World Trade Center projects, as well as multiple million dollar sales of new equipment to the New York City Transit Authority. Most recently, Sullivan was involved in arranging a large sale to an overseas customer, which was frequent for him as his contacts were international.

“Mike was kind and compassionate to everyone he met,” said a United Rentals statement. “He built strong relationships with his customers throughout the years. His co-workers joked that he struggled to ever say ‘No’ to them.”

United Rentals officials said he will also be remembered for his enthusiastic involvement in training new sales representatives.

Sullivan is survived by his wife Rosemary, his children Matthew and Megan and granddaughter Adrianna.
