The John Deere Construction & Forestry Division said it will offer a retrofit kit that will enable Interim Tier 4 machines to be sold in countries where ultra-low sulfur diesel fuel is not available. The kit, which will be available in 2015, can be used on John Deere-powered crawler dozers, wheel loaders, articulated dump trucks, motor graders, excavators and backhoes.

The retrofit kit disables and removes sulfur-sensitive components and systems. It maintains engine performance utilizing software calibration in addition to minimal hardware updates.

“This kit will allow customers in markets worldwide to run John Deere IT4 products that deliver premium performance, uptime and durability regardless of fuel sulfur level,” said Andrew Kahler, product marketing manager, engine and driveline for John Deere Construction & Forestry.

The kit is designed for fuel sulfur levels from 15 parts per million to well beyond 5,000 parts per million. ULSD is diesel fuel with 15 parts of sulfur per million or fewer.

New Deere equipment for export to non-ULSD countries will continue to offer lower tiered engines that meet regional emissions standards and will operate with the local available fuel. The kit will be supported by the Worldwide John Deere Dealer Network, the company said.
