Coleman Equipment Acquires Scott’s Tractor and O’Dell Tractor Co.

Coleman Equipment, a Bonner Springs, Kan.-based equipment rental and sales company, has acquired Scott’s Tractor & Equipment, based in Smithville, Mo., the Smithvilleherald.com is reporting. As part of the acquisition, Coleman also purchased O’Dell Tractor Co. in Independence, Mo.

Coleman Equipment is a family-owned and operated business specializing in providing equipment, rentals, parts and service to the light construction, suburban farm and grounds maintenance industries since 1940. Coleman provides equipment from Case Construction, Kubota, Stanley, Toro, Stihl, Wacker Neuson and attachments manufacturers such as Stanley, Stihl, Paladin, Redi-Haul, LandPride and others.

Scott’s has been a dealer for Kubota tractors, Scag and Exmark mowers and Stihl power products for more than 13 years. All of its staff has been retained by Coleman. Scott Kolbeck, former owner of Scott’s Tractor, will continue as corporate sales manager for Coleman. John Walker, salesman and assistant manager at Scott’s will serve as store manager for the Smithville location, enabling customers accustomed to the Scott’s staff to continue to work with the same people.

O’Dell Tractor has been a Kubota dealer for more than 40 years. The acquisition of O’Dell enables Coleman to expand its territory into Independence and Jackson County. The acquisition of the two companies gives Coleman a larger share of the tractor and commercial mowing business in the Kansas City market and surrounding areas.
