Miller Electric Mfg. recently introduced a welding blog where those in the industry can share their ideas, opinions and other information. The blog, dubbed Viewpoints, allows those in the industry to discuss their views on issues affecting their business, add comments on specific topics and ask questions. Site visitors can become authors at the site or suggest topics by using the “Contact Us” button on the website. The blog also features a web poll and a search function so users can search for specific topics and keywords that appear in past blogs. Ask questions and give opinions at www.millerwelds.com/results/blog.

On Track

Volvo Construction Equipment's CareTrack telematic remote machine management systems involves an exchange of information over a wireless network in order to monitor and manage the activities of machines in the field. When fully implemented, CareTrack will use both satellite and cellular systems to transmit information from the machine to a secure password-protected website that the customer can access to check the machine location, when they are due for service, and more. The system offers machine and operator data reports to make sure fleets are performing optimally. Also, by utilizing GPS positioning, CareTrack can track where each machine is and what it is doing at any time of day. Virtual fences can also be erected so that alarms go off or the machine is immobilized should it stray out of certain areas.

High Alert

The Tattletale portable alarm system uses one-way cellular burst technology to respond to security threats. The wireless security system can protect indoors and outdoors for up to half a mile and requires no installation, wires or phone lines. When activated, the Tattletale sends a signal to the designated monitoring center, which alerts the authorities in just over half a second. The system is do-it-yourself and can be unpacked and activated with tattletale's central alarm monitoring service and armed within minutes of purchase or lease. Tattletale is designed so that customers can self-activate the system and then protect virtually any asset up to four miles from the product's self-contained tamper proof base unit.

Get Smart

SmartEquip and ITEDO joined together to automate the publishing and management of illustrations for interactive parts catalogs, maintenance and repair manuals. Using ITEDO's technical illustration software, OEMs can now self-publish product support material direction from CAD data files into SmartEquip's electronic commerce and product support applications. This speeds catalog production and can save time and cost in locating and identifying aftermarket parts as well as in the accuracy of purchasing transactions. Using SmartEquip technology, ITEDO is able to transform technical illustrations into intelligent interactive parts catalogs that show real-time parts pricing and availability from which users can create and submit electronic purchase orders directly into dealers' and manufacturers' business systems.
