Thomas' new T75 excavator weighs 16,667 pounds and is available with a choice of either rubber or steel tracks. It offers an 11,668-pound breakout force and a digging depth of just under 14 feet. Two-speed travel combined with a 22.5-foot reach and loading height of more than 15 feet ensures quick cycle times. Low noise levels as well as certified ROPS/FOPS cab complete with heater and air ventilation system are standard equipment. For operator convenience, the controls can be switched instantly between ISO and SAE patterns, providing the control system most comfortable and productive for the operator.

IHI
IHI/Compact Excavator Sales LLC offers 13 mini excavators in three styles: conventional, zero tail swing and zero turning radius. Weights of the machines range from 1,700 pounds to 18,000 pounds. Diesel self-bleeding engines power all units except the 7JE, which is an electric excavator. The hydraulic pump system allows simultaneous slewing, travel and boom operation. All units have two-speed travel standard. The NX Series features zero tail swing and the 70Z is a zero radius machine.

Bobcat
Bobcat Co. unveils its 5600 Toolcat utility work machine — a steerable machine designed to work well on all surfaces and specifically to meet the needs of professionals in grounds maintenance, park departments, municipalities, colleges and universities, schools and medical institutions, golf courses, nurseries, and landscape and animal farm operations. It is equipped with a 44 hp Kubota diesel engine and combines all-wheel steering and 4-wheel drive in one machine. Its suspension system is able to adjust its responsiveness according to the type of load it's carrying.
Harold Jones, Public Works operations manager for the city of Dalton, Ga., wanted a Toolcat 5600 the first time he saw one. “It replaced a common type of utility vehicle that we used for years. The 5600, with its attachment options, has so much more versatility, plus it can carry more material and does a much better job working in soft-ground conditions,” Jones says.

Kubota
Kubota Tractor Corp. introduces the KX161-3 Tight Tail Swing compact excavator. It features a load sensing system and Kubota's exclusive auto idle system. The tail section projects 4.75 inches beyond the width of the tracks while still maintaining the stability of a conventional tail swing. The engine hood is recessed 5 inches from the edge of the counterweight so that side panels and engine components are well protected. Maximum drawbar pull is rated at 12,871 pounds and maximum bucket breakout force is rated at 11,118 pounds. The maximum digging radius at ground level is 241 inches and maximum digging depth is 152 inches.
Rick Wendland of Sunflower Rental in Topeka, Kan., chose Kubota compact excavators for his fleet because of the success he'd had with Kubota equipment in the past. He also values Kubota engines because of the success he's had with them on other rental equipment.

Deere
The new C-Series ZTS compact excavators feature a zero tail swing design that allows the body of the machine to rotate 360 degrees within the width of its tracks. Each compact comes standard with a quick coupler and auxiliary hydraulics, allowing them to use a wide variety of bucket sizes and attachments. C-Series ZTS compacts can be used for everything from flipping concrete manhole covers to excavating telecommunication systems, elevator pits and underground water retention systems. Other features include large doors that open wide, cooling system, fuel filters and battery.
Dennis Sullivan, corporate equipment manager, Sunland Construction Inc., Eunice, La., is using the C-Series excavators in the company's utilities distribution division. “Our people have found that with the mini excavator they can, many times, eliminate a trencher because they have both machines on site,” Sullivan says. “They found that they would use the mini excavator and the trencher would just sit.”

Takeuchi
The new TB135, 3.5-ton model compact excavator, which replaces the TB035, incorporates a variety of new safety and performance enhancing features. Safety features include standard travel alarm, TOPS/FOPS canopy or cab, retractable seat belt and control tower lockout system of the excavator's operating controls and travel levers. Electrohydraulic control buttons for the auxiliary circuit, horn and engine decelerator buttons are all conveniently located on the joystick controls for improved operator comfort and control.
Mike McGee, owner of McGee's Cleaning Services, Oakwood, Ga., had success with another Takeuchi machine prior to purchasing the TB135. “It puts power in the pumps, which gives it more digging power,” he says.

MMD Equipment
MMD Equipment's zero swing compact excavators are designed to reach restricted jobsites for excavating and demolition. The B7Sigma has a double articulated boom for difficult urban work in densely packed utility jobsites. The B08 ultra-compact excavator will pass through a 32-inch doorway and features a diesel exhaust catalytic purifier option that allows indoor operation. MMD's excavators come in nine models from 2,400 to 17,000 pounds, and from 9 to 57 hp. All have ROPS/FOPS structures or enclosed cabs and feature easy conversion from excavator to backhoe control patterns. Standard dual power take-offs operate a wide range of attachments.

The new Dingo 323 compact utility loader features Toro's exclusive 4-Paw independent four-wheel drive system. The 4-Paw system constantly directs hydraulic flow and pressure to all four wheels, ensuring optimum power and traction regardless of soil conditions. It is powered by a 23-hp air-cooled Kohler engine and features a durable resin hood to protect engine components from dirt and debris damage.
The compact utility loader was a new product for Salt Lake City-based Diamond Rental when they purchased the Dingo 323 a year ago. “We determined that returns were good right out of the gate so we added six more units to our fleet,” says Leonard Sedillo, general manager. “Customers come in now and ask for it by name.”

The Polaris Professional Series ASL 300 all surface loader can maneuver into tight spots to help get the job done with minimal surface impact. Yanmar has added new features to its Vio75 mini-excavator that are exclusive to the 17,000-pound class. A hydraulic quick coupler system that accommodates most manufacturers' buckets is now standard. The unit is also available with factory air conditioning and powered by a Yanmar direct injected diesel engine with Clean & Silent technology rated at 55.2hp/1900 rpm. Left and right boom swing allows digging straight trenches against walls. A flow-control 3-pump hydraulic system with two variable displacement pumps maintains straight and accurate travel speed even when other hydraulic functions are being operated.

The new L20B compact wheel loader from Volvo Construction Equipment has a vertical clearance of 7 feet, 11 inches, and has an easily removable cab to allow entry into areas with lower height clearances. The width of the machine is 5 feet, 4 inches. Other features include articulating oscillating joints, well-positioned wrap-around counterweights and 100 percent operator-selectable differential locks fitted as standard on both axles. The latter features furnishes adjustment to ground conditions for improved traction on difficult ground. It is also equipped with parallel loader linkage systems, enabling it for pallet work.

Daewoo Heavy Industries America Corp. introduces its Solar 75 V, small crawler excavator, which offers digging depths to over 20 feet and dump heights to 22 feet, 7 inches. A Tier II-approved, 53.2 horsepower Yanmar diesel engine drives a load-sending hydraulic system. The hydraulic system features heavy-duty precision pumps and motors and precision hydraulic cylinders with high-strength piston rods and sleeves. All cylinders are cushioned to ensure shock-free operation and long life.

Rayco's C85L mini crawler provides traction in wet or muddy areas. It is equipped with your choice of 16-inch rubber or 14-inch steel tracks.
