Avon, Conn.-based RMI Corp. last week announced it will now support email and calendaring services running on RIM Blackberry devices for Advantage cloud customers, beginning July 1. This update will close the smartphone gap allowing RMI to support Microsoft Exchange Services on any phone capable of receiving emails.

“We are proud to announce this new compatibility with Blackberry devices,” said Paul Chapdelaine, president of RMI. “This advancement is a prime example of RMI’s devotion to customer satisfaction through continuous advancement. We never like to have to tell customers, ‘that is not possible right now,’ and no longer will we have to thanks to the upgrade to Microsoft Exchange server 2010 that will be delivered through Business Online Productivity Suite (BPOS) next month.”

Microsoft Exchange server 2010 is included in the BPOS add-on for RMI Advantage. Customers subscribing to BPOS will be able to connect their Blackberry devices to their email and calendar on July 1. Existing customers can contact RMI support to get started.

The company is also launching its new Advantage Mobile user option on July 1. An Advantage Mobile user interacts with Advantage through a unique and simplified interface designed specifically for the small screens found on smartphones, barcode scanners and other mobile devices. Advantage Mobile is designed to deliver the RMI Advantage functionality essential to the job responsibilities of the employee, keeping them on task either in the office, warehouse or in the field.

Similar to RMI’s role-based menus for full-system users, Advantage Mobile increases user efficiency by tailoring each Mobile user’s screen to their specific job responsibilities, simplifying work processes. With the intention of expanding their offering, RMI’s initial release includes nine job tasks covering the areas of inventory transfers, shipments, and service time and materials. There are four additional job tasks slated for August 1.

The Advantage Mobile user is designed to allow companies to extend the reach of their business solution, enabling them to collect more information in real time and with less effort and cost. The Mobile user’s refined functionality is delivered at a lower cost than a full-system user.

“This truly allows our customers to carry out business and engage in a manner that’s most suited to their role in the organization,” said Lauren Dorman, vice president of product development. “Whether it’s a smartphone, tablet, or a durable wireless scanner that fits the bill, we’re eliminating the need to carry around a large piece of equipment in order to access up-to-the-minute business transactions.”
