UpRight Powered Access is scheduled to open a manufacturing facility in the United States and could be producing booms and large scissors as early as the second quarter of 2007.

According to Murray Pollock of Access International, UpRight CEO Darren Kell says the company is considering two sites. One site is an existing plant, which is set up for AWP production, and the other would be built from scratch. A decision on the site is expected to be made by the end of the month or in early January. The new facility will require an investment of about $5 million.

Kell said UpRight’s existing Fresno facility would continue to run the parts and customer services, but that the assembly of TM12s, vertical mast platforms and small scissors would likely shift to the new manufacturing site.

“Our business has grown rapidly in line with our strategic plans, and now is the right time to launch full-line production in North America,” said Kell. “This will be a large factory that is capable of producing significant numbers of larger booms alongside our high-volume scissor lifts.”
