Chinese Manufacturer Sany Considering U.S. Manufacturing Plant

Chinese equipment manufacturer Sany Corp. is considering building a plant in the United States, company executives recently said. Officials said products made in the United States would be sold there.

Sany, parent company of Sany Heavy Industry Co., might fund the project on its own or may consider a local partner.

Sany recently tried to gain control of another major Chinese equipment manufacturer, Xugong Group Construction, but was outbid by U.S. private equity firm Carlyle Group.

Sany, based in China’s central Hunan province, specializes in concrete mixers and pumps. Company executives expressed an interest in the Chicago area, although it hasn’t ruled out other regions. If the company goes ahead with the project, it will be the first Chinese construction equipment manufacturer to assemble equipment in the U.S. In July the Nanjing Automobile Group announced plans to build China’s first car plant in the U.S. in a facility in Oklahoma.
