Genie Starts Construction on New Washington Facility

Redmond, Wash.-based Genie Industries recently started working on a new facility in North Bend, Wash. The new facility will have two buildings, with a total of more than 190,000 square feet.

The facility will manufacture parts and have a service parts warehouse. When machines are finished in Redmond, they will be sent to North Bend for consolidation and shipping.

Certain operations will move from Redmond to North Bend, including parts, warranty and logistics, the article said. The company estimates there will be roughly 150 to 250 employees at the new location.

“Our parts department has really expanded — we are out of space,” said Dave Schille, director of parts and warranty for Genie. “With all of the growth and congestion in Redmond, it is necessary to move our logistics center to safely ship our units. We are extremely excited about this move. It is both a gain of space and efficiencies, plus it allows us to combine two teams into one.”

Construction is still in its early stages — the company is still in the permitting process, although it has been moving dirt since July. The tentative opening for the logistics center is scheduled for the first quarter of 2009. The parts department is scheduled for completion in the second quarter.

Genie Industries manufactures material lifts, aerial work platforms, trailer-mounted booms and light towers, scissorlifts, self-propelled telescopic and articulating booms and telehandlers.

Genie Industries is a subsidiary of Terex Corp., a diversified global manufacturer based in Westport, Conn.
