WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. — Greenwich, Conn.-based United Rentals last month announced that it purchased the equipment rental and sales assets of Handy Rent-All Center, with headquarters in Wappingers Falls, N.Y. Handy Rent-All Center has eight branches in New York and Connecticut.
Established in 1977 as Mid Hudson Contractor Supply, Handy Rent-All Center grew to be one of the largest equipment rental companies in the Northeast, with annual revenues of approximately $16 million. The acquired company primarily serves professional contractors and homeowners.
“Handy's branch network is a strong complement to our company's presence in the region,” said Fred Ransom, vice president, Northeast region for United Rentals. “This acquisition expands United Rentals' ability to serve customers in two states by providing expert solutions that are more accessible than ever before.”
Handy has historically been strongest in the homeowner/light contractor rental segment, although it has shifted more toward larger equipment and larger contractors in recent years. It has had a particularly strong market presence in the Hudson Valley region north of New York City.
Handy Rent-All Center is No. 73 on the RER 100. United Rentals is No. 1.
