Aggreko Swings Into Action for Golf Event

Aggreko, an international specialist in temporary power, distribution and temperature control solutions, has undertaken the task of providing the power infrastructure and climate control for the Ryder Cup golf tournament. The tournament took place at the K Club in Straffan, County Kildare, Ireland on Sept. 22-24, with large-scale power needs. The cabling needs are enough to fill 20 large shipping containers and the temporary power, heating and air conditioning needs amount to that required to support a typical village.

Aggreko provided advice from its Event Services team who aided the utility design, specified the equipment required and managed the installation and electrical testing. A total of 9 MW of back-up generator power has been deployed, distributed along 4 km of mains cables, through modular distribution equipment and on through a further 5 km of sub-distribution extension cables.

In addition, Aggreko is supplying 4 MW of air-conditioning and heating for the corporate hospitality facilities. At the heart of the Ryder Cup’s installation were Aggreko diesel-powered electricity generators installed both in banks for the tented villages and hospitality areas and also in strategically isolated locations for TV power and lighting. Aggreko supports the event both from its local hub and its specialist Events Services team, thus providing all on-site organization, fuel management and technical support for the equipment during the event.

Aggreko has supplied not only previous Ryder Cups but also the British Open Golf Championships and many other major golfing tournaments and other public events.

“Our contribution to golf has come about as a direct result of the efforts applied within the events market over the past few years,” said David Taylor of Aggreko.

Aggreko is No. 13 on the RER 100.
