Newsweek Names Caterpillar to Top 100 Greenest Companies in America

Caterpillar’s commitment to align its sustainability efforts with business strategy has earned the company a place on Newsweek’s Green Rankings, securing the No. 73 spot out of 500 companies listed. Caterpillar was named No. 5 in the Industrial Goods sector. The rankings are based on the company’s environmental policies, practices and overall reputation.

“Throughout Caterpillar we work diligently to hold our company to higher standards in the area of sustainable development,” said Doug Oberhelman, Caterpillar group president. “This recognition is proof our hard work and long-term strategies are paying off.”

A key focus for Caterpillar has been progress toward 2020 goals for products, services and solutions, as well as operations. Cited specifically in the write up of the company is the work being done to offset the effects of the carbon footprint of its equipment, including plans to reduce the GHG emissions of its entire product line by 20 percent by 2020 and reduce the absolute GHG emissions from its facilities by 25 percent by the same year.

“As I have said before, we believe the sustainability of our world and the sustainability of our business are inseparable,” said Oberhelman. “We recognize the challenges of sustainable development are numerous and daunting, but so are the opportunities. Cat’s placement on Newsweek’s Green Rankings solidifies our global commitment to the company, our customers and the communities where we live and work.”
