Caterpillar Named to Dow Jones Sustainability Index for Eleventh Consecutive Year

Caterpillar Inc. has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index for the eleventh straight year in the Industrial Engineering sector.

"Our ongoing commitment to sustainability fits perfectly with our focus on customers and helping them to become more efficient while meeting their sustainability challenges,” said Doug Oberhelman, Caterpillar chairman and CEO. “Inclusion on the DJSI for the eleventh straight year is an honor and a confirmation that we are focused on making sustainable progress possible."

Launched in 1999, the annual DJSI process involves a thorough analysis of corporate economic, environmental and social performance, assessing issues such as corporate governance, risk management, product stewardship, climate and energy strategy, supply chain standards and labor practices.

Sustainable development for Caterpillar means leveraging technology and innovation to increase efficiency and productivity with less impact on the environment and helping customers do the same — enabling their businesses to become more productive by providing products, services and solutions that use resources more efficiently.

Caterpillar's 2010 Sustainability Report underscores how the company is “Powering Change,” such as helping the world meet increasing demands for natural resources and helping its mining customers harvest those resources in the most efficient way possible. Caterpillar’s current and past sustainability reports can be viewed on the company’s website at www.caterpillar.com.

Peoria, Ill.-based Caterpillar is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives.
