Volvo Trucks First U.S. Manufacturer to Achieve Dual Energy Certifications 

Volvo Trucks' New River Valley assembly plant in Dublin, Va., is the first U.S. facility to be certified to the ISO 50001 standards under a pilot program supported by the U.S. Department of Energy. NRV is also the first Superior Energy Performance (SEP)-certified facility to use ISO 50001 as its energy management system standard. ISO 50001 and SEP are, respectively, the top international standard and top U.S. certification program for driving continuous improvements in energy efficiency....

Volvo Group Expands Partnership with WWF 

Volvo Construction Equipment and Volvo Buses have joined the Volvo Group’s cooperation with WWF Climate Savers to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions by 30 million tons from construction equipment, buses and trucks manufactured through 2014. Volvo’s joint-venture company, SDLG, which manufactures construction equipment in China, will also become the first-ever Chinese company to be a member of Climate Savers....

AEMP Announces Position on Proposed Clean Construction Act 

The Association of Equipment Management Professionals, an organization for asset management professionals of off-road fleets, this week announced its stance on the proposed Clean Construction Act. Upon request to establish a viewpoint on the bill, AEMP’s Emissions Committee held a meeting with the board of directors to review in detail and discuss. The board of directors made a decision to take a neutral stance on the bill based on AEMP’s mission and its own established initiatives aimed at emissions reductions....

Gregory Poole Equipment Commissions Solar Energy System 

Gregory Poole Equipment Co. recently commissioned the company's first photovoltaic solar energy system at the Power Generation facility in Garner, N.C. The 207.74 kW rooftop array collects solar radiation through 884 solar panels, and converts the power for commercial energy use with a grid interactive inverter. The energy generated by the system will be sold to Progress Energy to help meet community energy needs....

The 2,500 largest companies worldwide are ranked on the basis of their strategy and results in such areas as corporate ethics, environmental consideration and social criteria, with the focus on their ability to create sustainable value. The 300 highest-ranked companies, in no specific order, are included in DJSI World....

EPA Certifies Three John Deere Power Systems’ Engines for Interim Tier 4 

John Deere Power Systems this week announced that three models in its lineup of 75 to 174 hp off-highway diesel engines have been certified as compliant with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Interim Tier 4, European Union Stage III B and California Air Resources Board emissions regulations. The PowerTech PWX 4.5L and PVX 4.5L engines and the PowerTech PVX 6.8L model below 174 hp join the previously certified lineup of engines above 174 hp....

Bandit Industries to Receive EPA Award for Mercury Reductions 

Remus, Mich.-based Bandit Industries last week announced it is being recognized by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for mercury reductions taken at its manufacturing plant. These reductions were achieved as part of the National Partnership for Environmental Priorities program, which is a voluntary reduction program. NPEP is focused on promoting source reduction, working to identify environmentally preferable alternatives, fostering technology transfer, and cultivating collaborative relationships between EPA and public and private organizations....

Greenbuild 2010 Draws 28,000 Attendees 

The U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) annual Greenbuild International Conference & Expo welcomed more than 28,000 attendees in November at its show in Chicago. Attendees representing various backgrounds, professions and 114 countries filled the exhibit hall floor, educational and speaker sessions, green building tours and networking events that made up the three-day-long show. The nearly 200,000-square-foot expo hall floor featured more than 1,800 exhibit booths representing more than 1,000 exhibiting companies. Greenbuild is the industry’s largest gathering of representatives from all sectors of the green-building movement....
