Perkins Engines has begun operations at its new factory in Wuxi, China, near Shanghai, Diesel Progress magazine reported last week. The company said the $22 million facility will also include a research and development facility as part of a multi-year investment plan. Phase one involved the production of the Perkins 400 Series range of two-, three- and four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, naturally aspirated and turbocharged indirect engines.

Perkins said once the Wuxi facilities are fully operational, they will have the capacity to build more than 100,000 engines per year to be sold in China through a local network of distributors.
