Atlas Copco AB this week acquired Gazcon A/S based in Lynge, Denmark, northwest of Copenhagen. The acquisition extends Atlas Copco’s offering of nitrogen generators and adds oxygen generators to the range.
Gazcon designs and manufactures generators using technology known as pressure swing adsorption (PSA). The company had revenues in 2011 of about DKK 25 million (about U.S. $4.1 million) and employs 21 people.
“With Gazcon we get an extensive range of on-site nitrogen and oxygen generator technology,” said Stephan Kuhn, business area president, Atlas Copco Compressor Technique. “This is an interesting growth opportunity that broadens our offering to several customer segments.”
Nitrogen and oxygen gases are traditionally transported to customers through pipelines, bulk containers and cylinders. The PSA technology, combined with air compressors and dryers, allows small and medium gas consumers to economically generate gases on site, reducing costs and decreasing emissions. Nitrogen is typically needed in the marine, electronics, food and beverage industries, whereas oxygen is used in medical, waste-water treatment and metal applications.
