U.K. equipment rental company A-Plant has invested more than £1 million (more than U.S. $1.6 million) in new equipment to support public services provider Amey as it begins work on the £2 billion Sheffield Streets Ahead contract. Amey has been selected by Sheffield City Council to transform the British city’s roads, pavements, bridges, street lighting and highways in the first five years of a 25-year contract and then maintain them during the remaining 20 years of the contract.
A-Plant, owned by Ashtead plc, which also owns Sunbelt Rentals, has invested in a wide range of equipment including wood chippers, stump grinders, vacuum lifters, telehandlers, ride-on mowers, trailers and generators for the project. A-Plant has a five-year sole supply agreement with Amey. The new equipment will be supplied by A-Plant’s local service centers.
“We are delighted that Amey has been awarded this impressive contract following a rigorous three-year bid and we have made this full investment in new equipment to ensure Amey has first-rate equipment to fulfill work for the contract,” said A-Plant CEO Sat Dhaiwal.
Sheffield is England’s third largest metropolitan district with an £8 billion economy and 12,000 business and a population of 530,000.
