Ritchie Bros. Sets Canadian Auction Records
Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world’s largest industrial and construction auctioneer, sold CA$84 million (about U.S. $87.7 million) worth of equipment April 27-29 during a three-day unreserved public auction at its permanent auction site in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The auction set new company records for most equipment sold online and for the most registered bidders to participate online at a Canadian auction. The auction also set a record for most unique buyers at a Canadian auction and was the second largest Canadian auction ever in terms of gross auction proceeds.
More than 7,100 unique onsite and online bidders from 41 countries competed for more than 5,300 equipment items and trucks. More than 2,800 people bid online, purchasing more than CA$23 million, or 28 percent of the equipment.
About 40 percent of the equipment was purchased by buyers from outside Alberta, from as far away as Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Australia, Japan, India, Peru, Germany and Thailand.
There are more than 60 upcoming public unreserved auctions on the Ritchie Bros. auction calendar, which can be viewed at www.rbauction.com. Ritchie Bros. is based in Vancouver, B.C., Canada.
