Qualcomm Partners with Vermeer on Telematics-Enabled Equipment

Qualcomm, a leading provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, last week announced that it is working with Pella, Iowa-based Vermeer Manufacturing Co. to address the growing market demand for equipment-supporting advanced telematics capabilities. Under the agreement, Vermeer will endorse Qualcomm as an approved provider of telematics products for Vermeer lines of equipment and pre-wire its full line of products for Qualcomm’s GlobalTRACS equipment management system.

The agreement will enhance the customer process of purchasing telematics-enabled equipment from Vermeer’s line of products, including utility and track trenchers, directional drilling systems, tub grinders, tree equipment and hay-harvesting machines. Also, Vermeer’s customers can integrate Qualcomm’s OmniTRACS and OmniExpress wireless fleet management solutions with their service and delivery vehicles to provide enhanced customer service and response times, while further improving the efficiencies of delivery and service-truck dispatch and operations, the company said. The linking of Qualcomm’s GlobalTRACS and OmniTRACS systems is designed to increase productivity and efficiency by reducing manual paperwork and adding controls.

The companies will explore additional areas of product development to expand the potential productivity and efficiency of mutual customers through wireless communications and computing.

“Qualcomm is committed to working with industry-leading OEMs such as Vermeer, to benefit our customers,” said Larry Cleary, vice president and general manager of construction equipment for San Diego-based Qualcomm. “Through this collaboration, Vermeer will be able to provide their dealers and customers with a Vermeer-endorsed equipment management system that offers significant benefits, including productivity improvements, cost savings and increased revenue opportunity.”
