A grandfather and grandson have been arrested in the murder of David Bledsoe, member of the owning family of Bledsoe Rentals in Kansas City, Mo. Bledsoe was murdered during a robbery attempt at the company’s Kansas City store last week.
According to the Kansas City Star, Jackson County prosecutors charged George Britton Sr., 65, Anthony Britton, 18, and Andre Broadus, all of Kansas City, with second-degree murder, first-degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action. Police arrested them Tuesday.
Court records claim that Anthony Britton called his grandparents and asked for a ride to the rental store because they needed money. Allegedly the grandparents drove him and Broadus to the rental center and parked as the younger men committed the holdup. One of the gunmen allegedly shot Bledsoe, while the other escorted his brother Jeff to the back of the store to steal more than $500. The gunmen then ran out of the store in separate directions, while David Bledsoe hopped into his truck to pursue them before collapsing a block or two away. He died on the way to the hospital.
Eyewitnesses described the getaway vehicle as a maroon Buick with a white spot on the passenger-side mirror and missing lug cover from the front right wheel. After searching the city for days, police found a vehicle that matched the description in a driveway. Court records allege that Anthony Britton fired the fatal shot.
