Pleasanton, Calif.-basedIronPlanet, www.ironplanet.com, an online marketplace for used construction and agricultural equipment, broke its record for the highest value item ever sold in its online auction during the company’s $7.2 million sale on Oct. 21.
The online auction drew more than 13,500 attendees from 140 countries. Of the 993 items sold, 53 percent of the items had international bids from as far away as Bolivia, Japan and Saudi Arabia. Of the total winning bids, 25 percent sold to international buyers.
The equipment in the auction garnered more than 21 bids per item and the highest value item sold in the auction was a 2008 Gomaco GHP-2800 slipform paver in Michigan. A buyer from Louisiana won the paver for the highest bid of $930,000.
The auction was comprised of equipment from three sellers: Armadillo Underground, John Carlo Inc. and C.M.B. Inc. John Carlo Inc. completely liquidated both its Florida and Michigan.
