Ritchie Bros. Sells More than 200 Cranes in Five Weeks; Tops Single-Day Heavy Equipment Record 

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers has sold more than 200 cranes in five weeks at its first unreserved public auctions of 2012 in North America, Europe and the Middle East, with close to 90 cranes already scheduled to be sold globally by the end of April. The highest dollar value crane sold so far this year was a 2008 Liebherr LTM1400-7.1 400-ton all-terrain crane sold for $2.1 million to an online bidder from India at a Ritchie Bros. auction in France March 6....

Kyle Hesse, Founder of Star Rentals, Dies 

Kyle Hesse, founder of Seattle-based Star Rentals, died recently at the age of 91. In 1960, Hesse approached Irv Rabel, then owner of Star Machinery Co., about expanding Star’s small equipment rental operation and making it a dedicated rental business. Star Rentals Inc. was born in March of that year with a single branch operation in Seattle....

True Value Launches Electronic Ordering System at Spring Rental Market 

More than 3,000 retailers and more than 1,000 vendors participated in True Value Co.’s recent True Value Spring and Rental Market in Orlando, Fla., the company said, as True Value Hardware retailers were presented with a new Just Ask Rental logo and a new Rental Electronic Ordering System to use when placing orders....

United Rentals this week announced that its subsidiary, UR Financing Escrow Corp., completed offerings of $1,325 million aggregate principal amount of its 7.625 percent senior unsecured notes due 2022, $750 million aggregate principal amount of its 7.375 percent senior unsecured notes due 2020 and $750 million aggregate principal amount of its 5.75 percent senior secured notes due 2018....

Ritchie Bros. Sells $48 Million in Forth Worth Auction 

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers sold more than $48 million of equipment and trucks at a two-day unreserved public auction in Fort Worth, Texas, March 8 and 9. Equipment highlights in the auction included three late-model, low-hour Komatsu HD785-7 100-ton rock trucks, all sold to a single online buyer from Alberta, Canada for $900,000 each. More than 3,200 items were sold in the auction....

Bank That Shut Down Stone Construction Equipment Looking at Acquisition Offers 

M&T Bank, the Buffalo, N.Y.-based financial institution that foreclosed on Stone Construction Equipment this week and seized its assets, may entertain offers to acquire the company, according to the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and to sources close to the situation who spoke with RER. Sources have indicated that Stone sold more than $500,000 in equipment at the recent Rental Show and had a healthy backlog of orders when the bank shut the company down....

Aggreko to Increase Fleet Expenditures after Strong 2011 Performance 

Aggreko plc, the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control, posted £1.4 billion (about U.S. $2.19 billion), a 13.5-percent increase in worldwide revenue compared with £1.23 billion in 2010. Trading profit jumped 8.6 percent from £314 million a year ago to £341 million (about U.S. $534.4 million)....

Terex Adds Williams Tractor as Full-Line Compact Equipment Distributor 

Williams Tractor now offers the full line of Terex compact construction equipment to its customers in Northwest Arkansas, Southwest Missouri, and Northeast Oklahoma. The Terex compact construction equipment line is made up of more than 45 unique product models including compact track loaders, wheel loaders, excavators, skid steers and loader backhoes....

U.S. Construction Equipment Exports Climb 43 Percent in 2011 

U.S. construction equipment exports increased 43 percent in 2011 compared to 2010, for a total of $23.5 billion of machinery shipped to other countries according to the Association of Equipment Manufacturers. This follows growth of 28 percent in 2010 after a 2009 decline of 38 percent in the depths of the recession....

Minnesota Hoist Specialist Opens Rental Department 

Sharrow Lifting Products, a company that specializes in industrial lifting products and equipment inspection and repair, has opened a rental department to offer hoist equipment rental. Sharrow, an employee-owned company that specializes in lifting products, overhead crane and hoist systems, fall equipment repair and product awareness training will also offer electric chain hoists, manual chainfall hoists, manual chain lever hoists, manual and motor-driven trolleys, beam clams and more....

Stone Construction Equipment Shut Down by Bank 

The assets of Stone Construction Equipment were seized earlier this week by its primary lender, and the company was shut down, RER has learned. According to sources close to the situation, Stone Construction Equipment owed a substantial sum of money to the bank, but was unsuccessful in negotiations with the institution....

California Rental Association “Rental Rally” Moves to Pomona Venue 

The California Rental Association will hold its 2012 Rental Rally Tradeshow at a new venue at the Fairplex in Pomona, Calif., about 30 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The venue’s easy proximity to southern California rental centers made it an attractive location, and its close proximity to the Ontario, Calif., airport makes it a convenient flight for rental attendees located in northern California....

Genie Boosts Production in 2011, Expects Industry ‘Upcycle’ 

Aerial lift manufacturer Genie Industries boosted production 60 percent in 2011, Matt Fearon, vice president and general manager of Terex aerial work platforms, Americas regions, told the Columbia Basin Herald this week. Fearon said the growth was primarily driven by North American equipment rental companies replacing equipment. Last year Genie added a couple of hundred workers at its Moses Lake, Wash., plant, as well as a couple hundred employees at its Redmond, Wash., headquarters. The additional workers were mostly in the production area, such as welders, painters and material specialists....
