Pre-tax Profits Jump 43 Percent in First Half, Aggreko Reports 

Temporary power specialist Aggreko posted a pre-tax profit boost of 43 percent and said strong demand in emerging markets will help it exceed market expectations for full-year profits. Pre-tax profits were £67.9 million (about U.S. 123.5 million). Worldwide revenue for the first half was £408 million (about U.S. 742 million), compared with £317.5 million in the first half of 2007, a 28-percent hike....

Caterpillar Selects Empire for Regional Sales and Distribution Center 

Empire Machinery, the Caterpillar dealership in Arizona, last week said Caterpillar has selected its Eloy, Ariz., branch, a 150-acre site, to be one of its three new western regional sales and distribution centers. Doosan Infracore Acquires Articulated Dump Truck Maker Moxy 

Doosan Infracore has acquired Norwegian articulated dump truck manufacturer Moxy Engineering AS for about €55 million (almost U.S. $81 million). Doosan emerged as a top 10 international manufacturer last year after its acquisition of Bobcat and Ingersoll Rand’s portable power machinery division. ...

Toromont Industries Files Normal Course Issuer Bid 

Toromont Industries Ltd. last week announced that it has filed with the Toronto Stock Exchange a notice of intention to make a normal course issuer bid for certain of its common shares through the facilities of the Toronto Stock Exchange. Under this notice, Toromont is entitled to purchase up to 4,638,854, representing 10 percent of its common shares in the public float during the 12-month period commencing Aug. 31 and ending Aug. 30, 2009. Toromont currently has 46,388,538 common shares in the public float. The actual number of shares that may be purchased and the timing of any such purchases will be determined by Toromont. All shares purchased under this issuer bid will be cancelled....

Mexico’s Maquirent Launches Franchise Program 

Torreon, Mexico-based Maquirent, one of Mexico’s largest light equipment rental companies, has launched an effort to establish a franchise program. To establish a Maquirent franchise, a franchisee would require an initial investment of about $2.3 million Mexican pesos (about U.S. $230,000), including an initial payment of between MP 280,000 and MP 350,000....

Finning Acquires Fort Saskatchewan Rentals
