Sunbelt Rentals Employees and Branches Hit by Ike 

Sunbelt Rentals has set up camp for about three dozen of its employees temporarily displaced by Hurricane Ike at its Pasadena, Texas, branch. Sunbelt’s senior operational vice president for the Western territory Francis Hassis, now a veteran of hurricane rescue missions, told RER that the powerful storm caused damage, some quite significant, to the homes of many Sunbelt employees. ...

Trico Lift recently held a painting and refurbishing workshop for technicians from all of its seven branch locations. Pioneer Equipment Rental to Construct New Enid Facility 

Pioneer Equipment Rental and Supply is constructing a new facility for its Enid, Okla., branch, according to Internet news reports. The 7,500-square-foot building will be on a 3-acre lot. Pioneer officials said the new branch will be the model for future stores....

Stafford Equipment Expands Crane Territory 

Stafford Equipment was named Terex Crane dealer for Alabama, expanding its territory which also includes Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Maryland. Gabriel Group Acquires Franklin Equipment in Ohio 

The Gabriel Group, a company with a long history in the equipment rental business, last week announced its acquisition of Franklin Equipment in Columbus, Ohio. Franklin Equipment was recently appointed by New Holland Construction to sell and service its full line of equipment in Columbus and the surrounding areas. The dealership was founded in 1964 and traded as Franklin Tractor until its recent acquisition by Gabriel....

New AED Study Finds Direct Link Between Economy and New Equipment Purchases 

A new economic impact study released last week by the Associated Equipment Distributors found that, on average, 6.4 cents of every dollar spent on highway construction is used toward the purchase or lease of new equipment or on major repair and maintenance costs....

CLM Equipment Named Genesis Dealer of the Year

Gehl Co. Announces Agreement to Be Acquired by Manitou BF 

Gehl Co. today announced it has signed a definitive agreement to be acquired for $30 per share by its largest shareholder, Manitou BF S.A., a manufacturer and distributor of material-handling equipment based in France. The transaction, with an aggregate enterprise value of about $450 million, will be effected through a tender offer for all outstanding shares of Gehl by a Manitou subsidiary, Tenedor Corp., followed by a second step, cash-out merger....

HERC Expands Equipment Rental Operations to China 

Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. recently began operations in Shanghai, China, the company said last week. HERC is beginning with an initial product line of aerial lifts, air compressors and generators, and plans to expand to include cranes, excavators, rollers and wheel loaders....

Ashtead/Sunbelt Hikes Revenue and Profits in Fiscal First Quarter 

Ashtead PLC, which owns Fort Mill, S.C.-based Sunbelt Rentals as well as British rental company A-Plant, last week reported a 5-percent fiscal first-quarter revenue increase, rising from £246.2 million in last year’s fiscal first quarter to £259.5 million (about U.S. $458.9 million). Underlying operating profit increased 9 percent to £51.7 million (about U.S. $91.4 million), compared with £47.4 million in the year-ago quarter....

Sunbelt Rentals Quick to React to Hurricanes 

Sunbelt Rentals last week sent 15 tractor-trailers loaded with equipment and supplies to areas affected by Hurricane Gustav, regional vice president Francis Hassis told RER. Hassis, who directed NationsRent’s lauded hurricane response efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, said Sunbelt was better prepared this time, although the impact of Gustav fell far short of the dramatic impact of Katrina....

JPW Riggers Sells Small Crane and Rigging Assets 

JPW Riggers, based in Syracuse, N.Y., last week sold assets associated with its daily crane rental and rigging services division to the C&S Companies. The sale includes two 90-ton cranes, a 50-ton crane, a 35-ton crane, a 15-ton crane, 12 forklifts with capacities ranging from two to 15 tons, and a variety of rigging and specialty equipment....

RSC Equipment Rental Helps Greensburg, Kansas, Rebuild 

RSC Equipment Rental is lending its support to The New York Says Thank You Foundation volunteer initiative to help rebuild Greensburg, Kan., a town destroyed by a tornado on May 4, 2007. RSC stores in Kansas including locations in Dodge City and Liberal last week provided more than 12 pieces of aerial and earthmoving equipment for use in the reconstruction of Greensburg’s 14,000-square-foot Main Pavilion of the 4-H County Fairground....
