Sunbelt Rentals Joins SmartEquip Network 

Sunbelt Rentals announced Friday that it has entered into a commercial agreement with SmartEquip to utilize its SE B2B Exchange beginning in the second quarter of 2007. Sunbelt also announced the expanded use of SmartEquip’s e-FleetPro technology at 50 Sunbelt rental locations across the country, starting in the next 30 days. ...

Oshkosh Grosses $1 Billion in Fiscal Q1; Works on JLG Integration 

Oshkosh Truck Corp., parent company of JLG Industries and a leading manufacturer of specialty vehicles and vehicle bodies, reported earnings per share for its fiscal first quarter of 55 cents, on sales of $1 billion and net income of $41.2 million, compared with EPS of 72 cents on sales of $790.3 million and net income of $53.1 million for the same period last year. Oshkosh’s EPS exceeded its most recent earnings estimate range of 35 cents to 40 cents per share, which included an estimated 15 cents per share dilution to EPS from its $3.1 billion acquisition of JLG. The actual dilution was 13 cents per share....

Booth Sales Brisk for CRA Rental Rally 

The California Rental Association has almost sold out exhibit space for its March 20-22 “Rental Rally” in Bakersfield, Calif., CRA executive director Dale Blackwell told RER Reports. More than 100 vendors are attending and exhibitors include such prominent rental industry suppliers as American Honda, Bobcat, Ditch Witch, EDCO, Genie Industries, Hilti, Multiquip, Point-of-Rental Systems, Solutions by Computer, Sullivan-Palatek, Terramite, Titan Tool, Vermeer, Wacker and more....

HERC Opens 24 General Rental Locations in 2006 

Park Ridge, N.J.-based Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. added 24 general rental locations in 2006 as part of its planned expansion in that line of equipment rental....

Toaster Causes Fire at HERC Branch 

Fire sprinklers contained a fire started by electrical wiring in a toaster in an employee break room at the Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. branch in Rohnert Park, Calif., the Rohnert Park Public Safety Department reported last week. The fire caused about $10,000 in water and smoke damages. The fire was brought under control in 14 minutes and caused minor structural damaged....

Attendance at AED’s Annual Meeting & CONDEX Jan. 16-18 in Las Vegas increased 17 percent compared with last year’s convention, association officials said last week. Oakmont Acquisition Corp. said it has terminated its previously announced agreement to acquire One Source Equipment Rental. Stephenson’s to Explore Strategic Alternatives 

Stephenson’s Rental Services last week announced that its board of trustees has initiated a process to identify and evaluate strategic alternatives to maximize unitholder (shareholder) value. The strategic review process is being undertaken in response to the recent announcements by Canada’s Department of Finance to impose a tax on income trusts, and the new challenges facing the income trust sector as a result. Canadian income trusts avoid most corporate taxes by making regular cash distributions to unitholders....
