Aggreko Acquires Canada’s Power Plus Rentals & Sales 

Aggreko, global leader in temporary power, temperature control and oil-free compressed air, last week strengthened its Canadian operations by acquiring all the assets of Power Plus Rentals & Sales, based in Leduc, Alberta. Power Plus is a rental power specialist that provides services to businesses in the Athabasca Oil Sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan, where more than CN $10 billion per year is being invested in the development of the world’s second-largest oil reserve....

Mexico’s Maquirent Launches Franchise Program 

Torreon, Mexico-based Maquirent, one of Mexico’s largest light equipment rental companies, has launched an effort to establish a franchise program. To establish a Maquirent franchise, a franchisee would require an initial investment of about $2.3 million Mexican pesos (about U.S. $230,000), including an initial payment of between MP 280,000 and MP 350,000....

Finning Acquires Fort Saskatchewan Rentals 

Finning recently acquired the assets of Fort Saskatchewan Rentals, based in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, with a branch in Redwater, Alberta. The two towns are both a short distance north of Edmonton, headquarters of Finning’s Cat Rental Store network....

Pine Bush Equipment to Build Branch in Liberty, N.Y. 

Pine Bush Equipment, based in Pine Bush, N.Y., with branches in Holmes, N.Y., and Newington, Conn., has agreed to purchase two buildings and 11 acres in Liberty, N.Y., according to online reports. Liberty is developing a 100-acre light industrial park about a half mile from where Pine Bush Equipment plans to open its new branch....

Ahern Rentals Jumps 19.3 Percent in Second Quarter 

Ahern Rentals increased second-quarter total revenue 19.3 percent, posting $98.1 million, compared with $82.2 million for the same period in 2007. Rental revenue increased 19.8 percent year over year, with $83.9 million for the second quarter this year, compared with $70 million for the same period last year....

Finning Posts Record Worldwide Revenue but Canadian Rental Drop in Q2 

Finning International last week reported record quarterly revenue of CA $1.53 billion (about U.S. $1.44 billion), a 2.3-percent year-over-year increase compared with $1.497 billion in last year’s second quarter. Revenues for the first six months of 2008 were CA $2.96 billion, a 3.1-percent increase compared with last year’s first-six-months revenue total of CA $2.87 billion....

WesternOne Jumps 56 Percent in First Half 

Vancouver, B.C., Canada-based WesternOne Equity Income Fund posted a 56-percent total revenue jump in the first six months of 2008, an increase based largely on several acquisitions, with existing operations also posting same-store revenue growth. Echelon Delay to Have Minimal Impact on Ahern Rentals 

Las Vegas-based Ahern Rentals, the leading player in providing rental equipment for large construction projects on the Las Vegas Strip, last week said less than 1 percent of its fleet will be affected by Boyd Gaming Corp.’s recent decision to delay its large Echelon project. Because of Ahern Rentals’ diversification in the Las Vegas market, the company said the delay would have a minimal impact on its operations, although it will contribute to a reduction in Ahern’s near-term purchase of equipment for its rental fleet....

RSC’s Rental Volume Increases Despite Higher Costs in Q2 

RSC Holdings last week announced second-quarter rental revenue of $405 million, a 5.3-percent increase from $385 million in rental volume during the second quarter of 2007. Rentals represented 90 percent of RSC’s revenue, which totaled $449 million for the quarter, a 1.4-percent year-over-year increase....

United Rentals’ Revenues, Profits Decrease in Second Quarter 

United Rentals last week announced second-quarter 2008 income from continuing operations of $47 million, compared with $67 million for the second quarter of 2007, a 44.8-percent drop. The decrease is primarily the result of lower gross profit in a softening rental environment as well as a $14 million after-tax provision relating to the Securities and Exchange Commission inquiry. The loss was partially offset by United’s cost-cutting initiatives, including reductions in SG&A expense of $21 million and $39 million for the first quarter and first half of 2008, respectively....
