Ahern Rentals to Open Southern California Hub in La Mirada

LAS VEGAS — Ahern Rentals has opened a new 125,000-square-foot facility in La Mirada, Calif., just south of Los Angeles in southeast L.A. County, near the convergence of the 5, 605 and 91 freeways. Ahern Rentals CEO Don Ahern told RER that he plans to eventually merge three facilities into one, with the new branch being centrally located between current rental centers in Long Beach, Brea and Santa Ana. The facility is on a 7.5-acre parcel of land.

“We're keeping all the employees and we expect to hire about 20 more,” Ahern said.

Ahern said the new branch enables the company to reduce transportation costs because of its location near the convergence of the three freeways, whereas the other facilities are all a few miles from freeway entrances. Ahern said the branch is also more convenient for many employees, the majority of whom live closer to it than the facilities where they have been working.

The La Mirada branch also includes a large truck-repair shop, houses several delivery trucks and has a technical training center. The facility is constructed in such a way as to be able to store most of the equipment under roof. Ahern added that the company is putting in a 3,600-square-foot employee garden area with tables to offer a pleasant environment for lunches and breaks.

Ahern said the other branches will remain open for several months before being merged into the new one.

He also told RER that the central dispatch for the southern California area will be moved from its current office in Bloomington (near Ontario) to the new La Mirada branch.

Ahern Rentals also recently leased a 37,000-square-foot central office in Las Vegas, where 200 employees work, including senior management, IT staff, accounting, human resources, security and other administrative functions that previously were scattered around Ahern's various Las Vegas branches.

Ahern Rentals is No. 7 on the RER 100.
