Nevada Caterpillar dealer Cashman Equipment last week dedicated its new 53-acre facility in Henderson, Nev. Cashman, one of the U.S.’ largest Caterpillar dealers with seven branches, opened the facility in the midst of a fierce Nevada recession, having laid off 63 people — 8 percent of its workforce — in December.
Cashman employs 325 people at its 308,000-square-foot campus. The new facility was constructed and will operate according to environmentally friendly practices, including measures that cut heating, cooling and lighting usage. The headquarters was constructed with sustainable materials such as concrete tilt-up panels, terrazzo tile containing 50 percent recycled glass and more than 3,500 high-performance glass panels, according to the Las Vegas Sun. Carpens are made with recycled fiber and rubber and the indoor air quality is enhanced by not using volatile organic compounds in the paints or carpet. The company said about 818 tons of construction waste was recycled in the building process.
In January, Cashman closed its Mammoth Lakes, Calif., branch.
Cashman Equipment was forced to build a new facility after the Nevada Transportation Department required seven acres of Cashman’s former headquarters to expand an interchange.
Cashman is a major player in rental, ranked No. 29 on the RER 100.
