Atlas Copco Creates Construction Business Area

Atlas Copco Group has created a fourth business area, Construction Technique, to intensify its focus on construction customers and products and to optimize the synergies between its construction-related divisions. The new area includes Atlas Copco’s divisions for portable compressors and generators, road construction equipment and construction tools. Principal product development and manufacturing units are located in Belgium, Germany, Sweden, China and Brazil.

Also, the Portable Air Division of Atlas Copco is changing its name to the Portable Energy Division, which more accurately reflects the division’s extended product portfolio, the company said. The new Portable Energy division focuses on five “pillars”: air (onsite compressors); power (onsite generators); light (onsite light towers); water (onsite pumps) and used equipment.

The air and power pillars relate to products the Portable Air Division has supplied for many years. The light and water pillars were added in 2010. Newly appointed business development manager Sam Waes is developing the used equipment pillar.

“Changing the name of the division to Portable Energy is a logical step in light of the extension of our product range to our customers,” said Geert Follens, president of the division. “With the five pillars, we can offer our customers complete portable energy solutions. This extended product offering, together with the intensified focus on the construction business as a part of the new Construction Technique business area, will provide us with the tools we need to give our customers the right focus and the best service.”

Atlas Copco Construction Tools is based in Essen, Germany, with U.S. headquarters in Commerce City, Colo.
