The American Rental Association Professional Driver Education Program recently celebrated its one-year anniversary. Developed in cooperation with ARA Insurance and a number of rental operators, representing small- to large-size construction and general tool member companies, the program issued certificates of completion to nearly 400 rental professionals in its first year.
“We are pleased to help companies save money, time and, most importantly, lives through this rental-specific driver education program for construction and general tool operations,” said Christine Wehrman, ARA executive vice president and CEO.
The ARA Professional Driver Education Program, developed to increase safety, offers nearly seven hours of comprehensive training and a final exam.
“Drivers do more than just drive,” said Carla Brozick, ARA senior director of education and training. “Properly securing equipment for transport is a large part of their job and when not done correct, DOT fines and accidents can occur. Many times, the delivery driver is the primary company representative to the customers and must manage risks associated with equipment delivery every day.”
Since its inception, more than 500 individuals have enrolled in the driver education program with nearly 90 ARA-member companies supporting the program.
Headquartered in Moline, Ill., ARA is an international trade association for the owners of equipment rental businesses and the manufacturers and suppliers of construction/industrial, general tool and party/event rental equipment.
