Aggreko has secured a deal to provide temporary power for the London Summer Olympics in 2012, the fourth consecutive summer games Aggreko has powered. Aggreko has signed a £37 million (about U.S. $57 million) contract to power the games from the opening ceremony to field-of-play lighting and camera equipment across 39 venues, via more than 1,000 kilometers of cable.
Aggreko has grossed more than £90 million of revenues from major sporting events this year, including the FIFA World Cup in South Africa. The company is also on board as a sponsor of the games.
“We normally play away from home in places such as Beijing,” said Aggreko chief executive Rupert Soames. “It is therefore enormously exciting to have the opportunity to perform in front of our home crowd.”
Aggreko plans to invest more than £320 million in its fleet next year, much of it on gas-powered generators as more and more countries demand more environmentally friendly alternatives to diesel.
Based in Glasgow, with U.S. headquarters in Houston, Aggreko is No. 9 on the RER 100.
