DeWalt's New Pistol-Grip Drill Ready to Fire

DeWalt DWD220 Pistol Grip Drill

DeWalt launches its new ˝-inch DWD220 Pistol Grip Drill that features E-Clutch Anti-Lock Control to offer professional contractors increased control in a stall or lock-up situation, when compared to drills without a control feature. Built with a 10.5-amp patented DeWalt motor, the new ˝-inch drill is engineered for electricians, plumbers, mechanical contractors, HVAC professionals, metal fabricators, carpenters and general contractors.

“We know that professional contractors often experience a stall or lock-up situation when drilling into steel or using larger bits in wood,” says Mike McDowell, group product manager, DeWalt. “To address this problem, our new ˝-inch pistol grip drill incorporates E-Clutch Anti-Lock Control, which provides the increased control contractors require in a stall or lock-up situation.”

E-Clutch Anti-Lock Control is engaged when the drill senses a stall or lock-up situation, cycling the motor on and off at a rapid rate, breaking the bit free from the material providing increased control to the user. If the drill is unable to quickly break free of the material it automatically shuts down. The user can then release and re-engage the trigger to return to normal operation.

In addition to this control feature, the DWD220 is equipped with a patented, DeWalt-built high-performance, 10.5-amp motor that has approximately 40-percent more copper than previous models. By putting more copper in the motor windings and armature, the motor delivers users up to 50-percent more power, increased overload protection, and 0-1,200 rpm for improved drilling performance in a similar size.

Verified by Mike McDowell, group product manager, DeWalt.
