Snorkel Approves the Sanctuary Zone for Boomlifts

June 26, 2013
Sanctuary Zone is a steel frame that helps protect the machine operator from being crushed between the platform and an overhead obstacle. Two pieces are side-mounted on the guardrails to create a roll bar effect, with an overhead bar running between them to provide additional protection.

Snorkel’s global engineering team has approved the Sanctuary Zone additional overhead crushing protection system for use on its boomlifts. The Sanctuary Zone is a steel frame that helps protect the machine operator from being crushed between the platform and an overhead obstacle. Two pieces are side-mounted on the guardrails to create a roll bar effect, with an overhead bar running between them to provide additional protection.

The unit weighs less than 25 kilos and can be fitted to a platform in about 20 minutes. Snorkel has approved the SZ as an attachment to its global platform, fitted to all of its mid-sized and large telescopic booms and articulated booms. Snorkel has also approved the system for its A46 JRT 46-foot articulated rough-terrain boom and its A46JE electric equivalent. Engineers will approve the use of the SZ on other Snorkel machines on a case-by-case basis.

Snorkel is displaying the approved system on its A46JRT boom lift at Vertikal Days in the UK this week.

The Sanctuary Zone was developed by U.K. aerial rental company AFI-Uplift, but is now sold under license by U.K.-based Aerial and Handling Services.
