Canadian aerial work platform manufacturer SkyJack Inc. recently laid off 105 workers at its Guelph, Ontario, Canada, headquarters. The layoffs, which company officials said were temporary, included office workers as well as production employees on the company’s rough-terrain scissorlift product line.

Company officials said the “temporary downsizing” is the result of a slowdown in the U.S. economy.

Officials said the company is working on plans to bring outsourced work into the company to re-employ some of the workers, adding that further opportunities will come from the telehandler and rough-terrain forklift lines SkyJack recently acquired from Volvo.

First-quarter sales for SkyJack were about equal with last year’s first quarter.
