U.K.-based earthmoving equipment manufacturer JCB plans to eliminate 75 more manufacturing jobs from its U.K. plants, the company announced. The moves come two months after JCB announced the elimination of almost 200 shop-floor jobs.
“The proposed job losses affect five of JCB’s eight Staffordshire plants,” said a JCB official, adding the cuts are necessary to keep the company’s costs aligned with demand levels.
JCB recently posted 2008 pre-tax, pre-exceptional profits of £39 million (about U.S. $64 million), compared with 2007 profits of about £187 million.
JCB is based in Rocester, England, with U.S. headquarters in Savannah, Ga.
