Cummins Creates Ethics and Compliance Organization, Names Executives

Cummins Inc. this week announced the creation of an Ethics and Compliance organization with officer-level leadership and accountability, and has named deputy general counsel Mark Sifferlen as the company’s first vice president – ethics and compliance. Sifferlen, who has been with the company since 2000, is also is taking on the role of corporate secretary, where he will focus on corporate governance and compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission and New York Stock Exchange.

Sifferlen, who has been with the company since 2000, is also is taking on the role of corporate secretary, where he will focus on corporate governance and compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission and New York Stock Exchange.

The new Ethics and Compliance organization was created to ensure the company maintains its high ethical standards as it grows globally. The task of ensuring that the company complies with the Code of Business Conduct is becoming more complex as Cummins grows in size and global reach.

Sifferlen is uniquely qualified for this position. He currently oversees the company’s online compliance training and high-profile compliance areas such as bribery and export controls. He launched Cummins’ online compliance training program in 2005 and he is the primary author of the Cummins Code of Business Conduct.

In other company news, Carole Casto, a leader in Cummins’ Corporate Responsibility program, was named executive director of corporate communications.

“As Cummins grows into a global company, effective corporate communications takes great planning and strategic thinking to make sure the right message reaches the right audience,” said Marya Rose, vice president and chief administrative officer at Cummins. “Carole has demonstrated she has those skills.”

Casto currently serves as director of community engagement in corporate responsibility, playing a key role in the program’s expansion outside the United States. She also helped lead the process that resulted in the department focusing on three key issues: education, the environment and social justice/equal opportunity.
