Robert Bosch GmbH, Deutz AG and J. Eberspacher GmbH are looking at collaborating in the area of exhaust-gas treatment for non-vehicles, the companies said this week. A memorandum of understanding was signed by the three companies with the stated aim of pursuing negotiations relating to joint activities in the development, manufacture and sale of diesel exhaust-gas treatment systems.

With stricter emissions regulations coming into effect beginning in 2011 — Tier 4i and Tier 4 in the United States, and stage III B and IV in Europe — the demand for exhaust-gas treatment systems is growing significantly, the companies said. As the negotiations stand at present, the planned joint venture would supply complete diesel exhaust systems to all engine and machinery manufacturers worldwide.

The complete system would be made up of standardized modules with customized tubing. Bosch has expertise in SCR metering systems, electronic control units and systems competence. Deutz is strong in reducing diesel emissions, combined with application knowledge. Eberspacher is a leader in the area of exhaust gas aftertreatment.

The companies hope to launch the joint venture and begin series production in the near future.
