Atlas Copco Construction Mining Technique has named Bruce Beatty product and business development manager, horizontal directional drilling and raisebore effective July 18. Beatty had been serving as a product specialist in shaft, horizontal directional drilling and tunneling techniques for Atlas Copco’s Secoroc division, where he developed and established the current HDD program that he introduced globally.

Beatty also provided technical and sales support and training to Atlas Copco customer centers throughout the world. Beatty has 30 years of experience in down-hold tooling for the mining and construction industries.

“As we expand our presence and products into these specialty drilling business segments, Bruce’s knowledge, experience and enthusiasm will benefit company and customers alike,” said Gene Mattila, business line manager, rock drilling tools.

Beatty will focus on HDD shaft and raiseboring products for underground construction and mining. HDD is used to install underground pipelines for transporting oil, gas and water when obstacles make it impractical to lay pipe with conventional trenching methods. The Atlas Copco HDD program pioneered by Beatty consists of a matched set of rock drill tooling comprised of hard rock pilot bits and hard rock hole openers.

Atlas Copco Construction Mining Technique USA is based in Commerce City, Colo.
