Manfredi Predicts 12-Percent 2012 Rental Industry Growth in February RER Article 

The U.S. construction equipment rental industry will grow 12 percent to about $28.2 billion in revenue, industry analyst Frank Manfredi predicts in an article that will be published shortly in RER’s February edition, compared to about $25.2 billion in 2011. Manfredi predicts estimated rental revenue per location will jump from $1.82 million in 2011 to about $2.02 million in 2012, with estimated number of rental locations growing from 13,830 to 13,975....

Volvo Rents Acquires South Carolina Rental Company, Expands in Colorado 

Volvo Rents has acquired Blue Eagle Equipment, a three-store equipment rental company with facilities in Columbia, Greenville and Spartanburg, S.C. The acquisition gives Volvo Rents four rental centers in South Carolina....

Manitex International Announces Record End-of-2011 Backlog 

Manitex International, provider of boom truck cranes, rough terrain forklifts, container-handling equipment and special mission-oriented vehicles, said this week that it expects to report a consolidated order backlog of $83.7 million as of Dec. 31, 2011, an increase of 33 percent from Sept. 30. Rental Center Owner Finds Missing Inventory in Facebook Photo 

Gulfport, Miss., rental center owner John Milner discovered a former employee had stolen inventory from him accidentally while perusing Facebook. Milner, owner of Milner Rental Center, was looking at a picture on Facebook when he saw some of the company’s property, according to local media outlet WLOX....

IPAF Completes Training of Record 100,000 People in 2011 

The International Powered Access Federation last week reported that a record number of 101,457 people completed an IPAF training course in 2011. Construction Spending Reaches 17-Month High in November 

Construction spending in November reached a 17-month high of $807 billion at a seasonally adjusted annual rate, up 1.2 percent from a downwardly revised October total, and up 0.5 percent from November 2010, according to the Associated General Contractors of America’s analysis. Private residential spending increased 2 percent for the month and 3.4 percent year over year, while private nonresidential spending rose less than 0.05 percent for the month and 4.5 percent in the past 12 months. Public spending jumped 1.7 percent in November but declined 5.3 percent compared with November 2010....

Buffet-owned Sterling Crane Acquires Australian Crane Outfit 

Sterling Crane, an Edmonton, Alberta, Canada-based crane rental company primarily owned by Berkshire Hathaway, a private equity group headed by billionaire Warren Buffet, has agreed to acquire Western Australia-based Freo Crane, and its Queensland subsidiary Global Crane. The deal, reported by Cranes Today, would create a crane fleet of more than 800 units active on three continents....
