Manufacturers Predict Modest Growth in 2008 

The construction equipment manufacturing industry expects overall U.S. and Canadian business to remain flat through the end of 2007 but to rebound in 2008, with sales to worldwide markets remaining strong through 2007 and into 2008, according to the annual forecast of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers....

Vp Acquires First Engineering’s Rental Division 

Harrowgate, England-based Vp, last week said its subsidiary Torrent Trackside has acquired Firs Engineering’s small plant division for about £1.2 million (about U.S. $2.5 million). The acquired business will be integrated within Torrent Trackside’s rail portable plant rental business supporting the United Kingdom’s major track maintenance, renewals and project contractors....

ConExpo Asia Attendance Expected to Triple 

ConExpo Asia 2007, to be held in Guangzhou, China, Dec. 4-7, is tracking at triple the number of attendee registrations compared with two months before the 2006 show. Attendees already signed up come from 60 countries. Currently 57 percent of the registrants are from China, and 43 percent from outside the country....

NER Reports Scissorlift Control Box Thefts 

National Equipment Register last week reported 15 incidents of theft of scissorlift control boxes in Southern California. Individuals have entered area rental facility yards both at night and during operating hours and removed scissorlift operator control boxes, which are hung from the railings on the machine’s lift platform....

Cramo Reaches Site Hut Outsourcing Agreement 

Cramo, an international European rental chain based in Helsinki, Finland, has reached an agreement with The Hartela Group, one of the largest construction companies in Finland, to outsource building site huts. In the initial phase of the agreement, Cramo acquires Hartelas entire fleet of site huts, and then will take over the order for additional site huts that Hartela has already placed at Cramo Master, a site hut factory within the Cramo group....

Manitowoc Opens Plant in Portugal 

Manitowoc celebrated the opening of its latest facility with an open house for hundreds of customers, dealers, senior company management and local government officials.
