Scottsdale, Ariz.-based Rental Service last week announced that Mike Merlonghi, a general contractor from Fairfield, Calif., is the winner of the company’s Ford truck giveaway.

Merlonghi won a new 2003 Ford F-250 XLT SuperCab 4x2 Ford truck but opted to pay the difference to upgrade to a black F-250 XLT SuperCab 4x4 Diesel with Nerf Bars.

“It’s like winning the lottery,” he said.

Merlonghi, owner of Mike Merlonghi General Contractor, a residential and commercial remodeling company, was selected at random from qualified and complete entries.

The Ford promotion is part of the Rental Service Rent vs. Buy campaign. Erik Olsson, the CFO for Rental Service, said the idea for the campaign stemmed from the fact that renting equipment is almost always a better financial choice than purchasing equipment.

“In many cases, the additional charges associated with ownership begin to outweigh the costs of rental the moment you write-out the check,” Olsson said. “It doesn’t matter whether you are a small or large construction company. When you own equipment, the factors and costs associated with ownership are costs that you will have to incur, and with renting, you only pay for equipment when you need it.”

Rental Service is No. 2 on the new RER 100.
