Aerial lift manufacturer Upright Inc. named Ian Menzies as president, effective last month. Menzies was president of Long-Airdox, a Virginia-based manufacturer of underground mining and conveying equipment with $250 million in sales, 1,400 employees and 35 locations worldwide.

"Ian Menzies' skills and experience are well suited to oversee growth and development of Upright as it continues to expand its product range and improve its manufacturing processes," said Robert Stowe, chairman of W.R. Carpenter North America, parent company of Upright.

In related news, Horizon High Reach & Equipment president Rick Penkert has resigned from the Fresno, Calif.-based aerial and material handling rental specialist, also owned by W.R. Carpenter.

Former president Shaun Flanagan, who has been overseeing the company's international expansion efforts, will step in on an interim basis until the position is filled.

Flanagan told RER that Penkert is leaving on good terms to pursue new challenges. "Rick is a rental/sales/doer type of guy, and at his age the corporate environment of a company our size was just not what he was looking for right now," he said.
