Mustang

Mustang's skid-steer loader models 2044 and 2054 now have enhancements designed to improve operator comfort and visibility. A re-engineered ROPS/FOPS enclosure on the two models is the most visible change. The cab enclosure includes a larger rear window and a redesigned side screen, providing enhanced panoramic views of the jobsite. Visibility is also enhanced by new exterior halogen lighting. The Mustang dual lever/hand controls option has also been enhanced, requiring less effort from the operator. The 2044 and 2054 have two additional control options: dual lever with foot controls and T-bar with foot controls. An improved heating system offers higher air flow and more vents. The heater has been relocated to the left side of the ROPS enclosure, making entry/exit to the machine easier.

Volvo Construction Equipment

Volvo launches its B-Series skid-steer loader line with five models: MC60B (pictured), MC70B, MC80B, MC90B and the MC110B. Operating capacities range from 1,350 pounds to 2,250 pounds and engine power from 45 net hp to 81 net hp. The B-Series offers the operator a choice of popular foot and hand mechanical controls or the comfort and efficiency of hand-operated hydraulic pilot controls. A new seat bar provides an ergonomic armrest and control lever positions fall naturally to hand, creating improved efficiency and reducing fatigue. New joystick handles for both the mechanical and pilot control system incorporate the standard auxiliary hydraulics function. The addition of a rear counterweight is designed to protect the rear door and improve weight distribution for smoother operation.

Bobcat

Bobcat's K-Series skid-steer loaders (S130 through S300) feature the SmartFan cooling system, a hydraulically driven cooling fan that senses machine operating temperatures and self-regulates to rotate only as fast as it needs to. The temperature-controlled, variable-speed fan optimizes the cooling needs of the loader and can be 30-percent quieter in some operating conditions. The K-Series loaders continue to feature the Bobcat dual-path cooling system, which brings in cool, clean air from above through the oil cooler and radiator and pulls hot air from the engine and hydrostatic area exiting out two side vents. This design reduces dirt and debris restrictions in the cooling system and minimizes debris in the engine compartment.

Vermeer

The Vermeer S600TX rubber track mini-skid steer is available with two engine options: a 25-hp Kohler Command Pro gasoline engine or a 25-hp Kubota D905 diesel engine. A machine width of 35.75 inches allows the S600TX to maneuver through confined areas. The 7- or 9-inch tracks provide enhanced stability and lower operating ground pressure. The S600TX comes with a spring-cushioned platform that is positioned within the framework of the machine, reducing the need to walk through worksite debris, mud and uneven terrain. A universal attachment mounting plate combined with 14 gallons per minute of hydraulic flow enhances versatility.

Jesse Ott, owner of Jesse's Home Improvement in Ashland, Neb., used the S600TX to haul stones to be used to build a retaining wall. “You didn't have to pick them up and carry them,” he says. “It actually saves a lot of labor. It saves you a lot of manhandling because the machine's narrow enough to get in those tight spaces behind the trailers.”

Gehl

Gehl's line of E-Series skid loaders features six models with rated operating loads ranging from 1,175 pounds to 2,900 pounds when equipped with optional counterweights. The models — 3640E, 4240E, 4640E, 4840E, 5640E, 6640E — are built with specially designed engine compartment components to lower sound levels, both inside and out. The All-Tach universal-type quick-attach system makes changing attachments fast and easy. For added convenience, Gehl offers an optional Power-A-Tach system that lets users quickly connect and disconnect attachments without leaving the seat on the four larger models. A 2-speed option allows top speeds of more than 11 mph on the 4640E and 4840E models, and up to 12.5 mph on the 5640E and 6640E models.

Stanley Stangler, owner and operator of Watertown Plastic Fence and Country Estate in Watertown, Wis., uses the 4840E model for digging holes for fences. He appreciates the easy quick attach system the unit offers because he changes attachments three or four times a day. He also enjoys the 2-speed option because it enables him to get around the field quickly. “You make better time,” he says. “They shouldn't sell it without 2-speed.”
