Safway Steel Changes Name to Safway Services

Safway Steel Products, a 67-year-old scaffold products and services company based in Waukesha, Wis., changed its name to Safway Services last month. “Safway is not a steel company or a manufacturer anymore, so it makes sense to update our name to encompass our expanded services and products,” said Marc Wilson, Safway president and CEO. Safway Services operates more than 65 full-service scaffold branches in the United States and its Canadian subsidiary, Safway Scaffold Services, operates nine in Canada.

IR and SK Commercial Create New Company

Ingersoll-Rand and SK Commercial, the subsidiary of Chilean engineering and construction group Sigdo Koppers, formed a joint venture in the domestic market. The new company, IR Bobcat Chile SA, will receive initial investments of US$1 million and will specialize in the marketing of construction equipment and spare parts. It will also provide maintenance services.

Tecumseh to Close South Georgia Plant

Tecumseh, Mich.-based Tecumseh Products Co. is closing its factory in Douglas, Ga., putting 550 people out of work. Tecumseh manufactures small engines and carburetors at the Douglas plant, which opened in 1995. The closure is part of a plan “to reduce excess capacity by shifting production to overseas, lower-cost manufacturing facilities,” the company said. Tecumseh will move operations to a new plant in Curitiba, Brazil.

Water Cannon Opens Fourth Location

Orlando, Fla.-based Water Cannon opened its fourth warehouse based in the Ohio Valley, which will provide closer service to its Midwest and Northeast customers. Water Cannon is a manufacturer of pressure washers and replacement parts.
